The Employment Law Group has been honored to represent a large public university for many years, successfully defending the university against employment lawsuits under state and federal laws, providing training, and offering pre-litigation counsel.
When a former research scientist sued the university alleging she had been discriminated against and subjected to a hostile work environment based on her national origin, we were enlisted to master the complex scientific facts of the case, translate those facts for the jury, and secure a victory. The international make-up of the lab, including another employee of the same national origin as the plaintiff, all of whom were treated favorably, combined to convincingly show that the plaintiff’s national origin had nothing to do with her dismissal from the university. The Court dismissed half of the plaintiff’s claims at summary judgment and we obtained a full defense verdict on the remainder of the plaintiff’s claims after a nearly three week jury trial. Knowing that the plaintiff had been treated lawfully, the university felt particularly vindicated by the verdict in this multi-million dollar case.
